i read the manga and enjoyed it, seems like the adaption is very solid so far

also re-watching minami-ke off and on which i love

How do you get your anime group to spend that much time watching anime? The group I used to watch with could get through maybe four episodes or one anime movie per week, tops.

well they started this before i jumped in so they’ve been doing it longer than i have

also its my dnd group from ll so they’re used to spending their evenings unproductively

I see. I watch with my old DnD group from college and they usually burn out after about an hour and a half.

whoever the actress that played ai did an all right job, she at least had personality and was fun

but then there was like an arc where she had no screen time at all and none of the other cast had any presence at all

it was p torturous lol

one thing i hate about japanese storytelling is that the writers seem to really love NTR’ing their audience

so many anime they introduce some character whose sole job is to piss you off as much as possible by being pure evil, but then they just fuck off with no catharsis cuz I only absorb children’s fiction and you can’t teach kids that revenge is cool.

the closest american parallel i can think of is british actually, prof umbridge from harry potter.

i didn’t hate it but it’s kind of a shame because the rest of it was SO good, like legit some of the best pacing i’ve ever seen in a show, the comedy portions were awesome, and the drama parts were tasteful.. until the end which i feel went a lil too far.

luckily the ending wasn’t exactly as i predicted so that’s good. honestly they could have had a ¹⁰⁄₁₀ show if they had tried :/

The lack of a good explanation for why they made emotionally fragile teens pilot the mechs pissed me off, esp since it was such a major point to the series. At least Evangelion explained this.

Also the last ep was classic Anno blew the budget again, but I expected that.

u should watch it cuz its good but ur very far past the prime viewing age and are instead at the prime reviewing age so idk maybe u wont enjoy it as much as you could have

I didn’t really set any expectations for it and I still didn’t think it was that great. I liked it, but it wasn’t some legendary show or anything to me.

In terms of newer shows, I’d recommend Vinland Saga. I’ve only given perfect scores to about a dozen shows out of my 1300+ watches, and that was one of em.
