Has any anime wasted as much potential as "Darling in the Franxx"?

Watched this with my anime group and we were all deeply disappointed at the last half of the series. They had a decent premise and squandered it.

Those of you who watched it - is there any other anime series that you can think of that wasted as much or more potential?

i never watched that but knights of sidonia had a chilling first season and the second season leaned into like a weird harem anime with a talking flesh penis thing as part of it

idk, it was v disappointing to me and i didnt finish the second season lmao

sword art online episode 1: whoa! this is awesome
sword art online episode 2+: nm this is garbage

I haven’t seen Sword Art Online, but why does does it seem to be so popular if it’s garbage? Marketing, mostly?

i guess it was kind of the prelude to all these generic isekai anime so it must have struck a cord with OP protagonist, easy waifus etc

Babylon was a thriller starts out with a high concept theoretical problem posed by society allowing for the legal option of suicide. Then about ²⁄₃ into the show, it devolves into something on par with Psycho-Pass S2.

Psycho-Pass S2 is another good (bad) one. What a difference in quality having another writer makes.

The OP was sadly the best thing about Darling. Still listen to it every now and then.

The ending is still one of the funniest things that’s ever happened
